The Basketball Interview…Mason Falslev
Mason Falslev quietly had one of the best freshman seasons since Frank Jackson was a freshman over four years ago. Falslev averaged 13 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists per game for the 19-3 Sky View Bobcats. Here is our interview with him.
What are some strengths you have in your game that make you the player that you are?
“My biggest strength is driving and finishing at the basket with my right hand through contact. I’m also a good three point shooter which opens up my drive.”
What are some of your weaknesses that you would like to work on?
“I need to improve on finishing through contact with my left hand. If I’m able to finish with both hands I know this will take my game to another level. I also would like to work on being more crafty around the rim with floaters.”
Who is the toughest player you can recall playing against in Utah High School basketball?
“Connor Shaw from Weber or Saxton Morby from Fremont. They were both very quick players who could shoot the ball. It was fun playing against them in region play.”
What is your dream college that you would want to play for and why?
“Duke. They are a great program with a great coach so that would be an amazing experience to play for them.”
How is the recruiting process going?
I’ve been offered by Utah State University. I’m going to wait and see what happens in the recruiting process before committing anywhere. I have also heard from BYU.”
Wh0 is your favorite NBA player and why?
“I liked Derrick Rose his first few years in the league. I loved watching all the different ways he could finish around the rim.”
Will you be the attending the newly opened Green Canyon High School?
“I love playing for coach Hillyard and would love to stay at Sky View for the rest of the career. My family is in the process of trying to find a way so I could stay at Sky View. Will see what happens in the next few weeks with the school district’s decision.”
What is your favorite off the court activity and why?
“I enjoy playing ping or any game with my friends.”
Prep Hoops evaluation
Mason Falslev plays like he’s a senior rather than a freshman. He is able to blow by defenders and finish through contact consistently. Falslev is a great athlete and had several dunks this year which made people start paying attention to him. If he continues to grow and develop he will be a mid-major to high-major D1 prospect.
