John Williams Basketball Training Session Notes
On Monday afternoon I had the chance to watch former UNC-Asheville and Harlem Globetrotter John Williams work out around 25 guys from around Western North Carolina at Asheville School.
John is doing something in this area that has been missed for a long time in this area and is creating a buzz around town for type of players he is molding. He is a great teacher of the game and any players in the area that want to take their game to the next level should attend one of these sessions.
The sessions are held on Monday evening at 6 P.M. at Asheville School. Players run through stations and compete agains the best players around WNC.
One of the better point guards in Western North Carolina and the state for the 2019 class is Caleb Mills. The 6-foot-5 point guard plays with Big Shots JWB and spent this past season at Asheville Christian Academy. He is a long floor-general that can get into the lane off the dribble and can score from the perimeter. He is active on defense and is hard to get by.
Hooper ThomasHooper Thomas and Daylan Thomas of Rosman High School is a freshman and rising senior respectfully. Daylan, has a college ready build and can score from anywhere on the floor. His younger brother Hooper is going to be a special player as well. He has a knack for scoring and has a high basketball IQ.
2018 F Justin Tene is a strong, big shouldered post for Big Shots JWB. Has a nice release from just outside the paint. D2 level prospect. He played the four spot last season at Asheville Christian Academy.
Chris Hemphill, 6’4 wing out of East Henderson HS is a physical, natural athlete. Can jump out of the gym and has a nice jumper.
Raishaun Brown, a 6-foot-1 point guard out of Carolina Day School is a legitimate college prospect. He is quick as a cat and can finish when he attacks the basket. Has a high basketball IQ and can penetrate the lane to score or find the open man. Should be a very good Division Two prospect at the end of his career.
