Impact Transfer: Brandon Murray (2019)
On Wednesday afternoon we found out Via the Raid Nation twitter account that Raid Nation Shooting Guard Brandon Murray would be transferring from EE Smith over to Freedom Christian Academy and joining the 2019 graduation class. The move surprised some but is a nice pickup for the Freedom Patriots as they multiple starters to graduations including some wings that produced at a high rate for them. So how does this move impact Freedom? How could this impact Murray’s recruitment? Does this help Freedom in their attempt to dethrone back to back state champions across town at Village Christian?
What does this move mean for Murray?
For Brandon Murray this move helps him on the court with his time to develop his body and skill set for an extra year. At this point he is what we would call a three point specialist, he can knock down the trey ball at a very high rate especially off the catch. Once he adds some more muscle to his frame he will be able to absorb contact inside the paint some more, which will cause defenders to think twice about the way the close out on him. This also gives Brandon another year of time as far as summer ball and getting his name known to more colleges which will only be a matter of time if he continues to work.
How does this Impact Freedom Christian?
With 2019 Guard Jamahri Harvey set to return next season this gives Harvey a backcourt running mate that can score the ball at a very high rate. With the loss of the upperclassmen wings it will be imperative for him to have the help in the backcourt and that is exactly what Murray can provide. Both are in the 6’4 height range, with long wingspans that can shoot the ball so there are numerous schemes and sets with these two teamed up that can cause a problem for opponents. Only time will tell how everything will work out for the Freedom Patriots but overall this is a solid pickup for them as they look to compete for a NCISAA 2A State title next year.
