Grassroots Team Preview: Kansas Select 17U
Kansas Select opened its spring slate this weekend at the Prep Hoops Route 66 Kickoff in Oklahoma City. The squad features several of the state’s top players, including McPherson’s Ben Pyle, among others, and are coached by Mike Pyle.
Ben Pyle, 6’6, 2018, McPherson
One of the premier players this weekend in Oklahoma City, Pyle is a terrific all-around performer who is coming off an all-state type season. He combines size and skill and has the ability to do multiple things at a high level.
He currently has offers from Davidson, Northern Iowa, Weber State and Colgate and has drawn interest from several other programs as well.
Cevin Clarke, 6’0, 2019, Arkansas City
An explosive scorer, Clark averaged 20 points per game this season as a sophomore at Arkansas City, Kan.
“I know the team improved a lot from his freshman year to this year and I think it is their best record in 10 years,” Mike Pyle said. “He is a real heady, smart player. A coaches’ son type kid.”
Dylan Vincent, 6’2, 2018, G, Goddard Eisenhower
Vincent is one of the premier returning players in the state of Kansas after helping lead Eisenhower to the 5A semifinals. He is at his best attacking the basket and combines the ability to score the ball with the ability to lead a team at the point.
“He’s going to be one of the best players in the state this upcoming season,” Pyle said. “He has talked to some smaller Division I schools and has drawn a lot of interest from junior colleges and Division II schools as well.”
AJ Snipes, 6’2, 2018, Wellington
Coming off a junior season in which he averaged 17 points per game for his high school squad. A well-rounded guard that can do a lot of different things at a high level.
Bryce Wiedemann, 6’5, 2018, Maize South
Wiedemann is a smart, heady player that can knock down 3s and can play at stretch 4 as well. Was the leading scorer this past season at Maize South, averaging 13 points per game to go along with a team-high 7.2 rebounds per contest.
Jalen Smith, 5’10, 2018, Wichita Northwest
Point guard type that is a smart player and good with the ball. He is a terrific on-ball defender and is coming off a junior season ion which he averaged six assists per game in City League play.
Ian King, 6’8, 2018, Wellington
King brings size and length to the court and is a good outside shooter and rebounder. He is working on his face up game and looks to become a stretch 4-type in the future.
Kael Kordonowy, 6’6, 2019, Maize South
Has grown three inches over the past year and has upside due to his size and length. Averaged 9.0 points and 5.8 rebounds for Maize South this past season and blocked 2.5 shots per game.
