Best Available: KY 2017 Guards
With a number of Kentucky’s 2017 prospects already making their college decisions, Prep Hoops Kentucky breaks down the top remaining 10 prospects at the guard position.
1.) Tavin Lovan, Franklin-Simpson (6’3, SG)
Lovan is ranked as Kentucky’s #2 prospect and is sure to play at the Division I level. Lovan averaged 26.3 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. He also helped lead Franklin-Simpson to a 26-7 record and a 13th District tournament championship.
2.) Keith Clemons, Wesley Christian (6’3, PG)
Averaging 17 points and 6 assists per game at Wesley Christian this season, Clemons may be the best available point guard. Akron and Appalachian State have shown recent interest, he’s also visited Marshall.
3.) Devon Cooper, Waggener (6’4, G)
The former Findlay Prep player finished out his high school career at Waggener, playing in 12 games at the end of the season. He helped Waggener win the 27th District tournament, averaging 21 points and 8 rebounds per game.
4.) Jacquess Hobbs, Waggener (6’1, PG)
Looking to take the JUCO route, Waggener’s Jacquess Hobbs has been offered by Southeast Community College, Shawnee Community College, and Olney Central College. He averaged 16 points per game this season.
5.) Timmy Dalton, Lawrence County (6’3, SG)
Dalton led the entire country in scoring, averaging 37.4 points per game. He also averaged just under 11 rebounds. Originally committed to D-II Salem International, it looks as if Dalton will look to take the Prep School route.
6.) Preston English, Murray (6’3, SG)
English had some Division I interest early, but it remains to be seen where he will end up playing college ball. English lit up the stat sheet in scoring, averaging 24.2 points per game, shooting 51% from the field.
7.) Jamil Wilson, Ballard (5’9, PG)
Wilson averaged 13 point while acting as Ballard’s floor general. He helped lead Ballard to the Kentucky state tournament quarterfinals.

Carmichael helped lead Harlan County to the Kentucky state tournament this year, winning both the 52nd District and 13th Region tournament championships. He averaged 19.8 points per game as the Bears floor general this year.
