The Basketball Interview: Trey Wertz (2018)
A great example of a student-athlete is rising senior Trey Wertz of Providence Day School/Team CP3. He excels in the classroom and on the basketball court where he helped lead The Chargers to a NCISAA 3-A state title a year ago as a sophomore. Recently Stanford University was in to watch him work out and PrepHoopsNC had the chance to catch up with Trey and discuss his recruitment and the upcoming travel basketball season.
PrepHoopsNC: How’s the AAU season going?
Trey Wertz: It just started so I couldn’t really give you an evaluation of it right now. However, we did play 3 games this weekend and won all of them so that was good.
PrepHoopsNC: What game or event are you looking forward to?
Trey Wertz PC: Charlotte ObserverTrey Wertz: I’m just looking forward to the EYBL as a whole. There are a lot of good teams and players so it should be a pretty fun summer. But I definitely want to participate in Peach Jam so I hope I we make that.
PrepHoopsNC: What schools have you been hearing from?
Trey Wertz: I have heard from Georgia, Providence, Stanford, Xavier, Georgetown, Rhode Island, Virginia, Nova, Harvard, Penn, and some others.
PrepHoopsNC: What do you feel that you need to improve on?
Trey Wertz: I feel like I need to improve everywhere. I couldn’t really give you one or two specific things.
PrepHoopsNC: What are the parts of your game that set you apart from other players.
Trey Wertz: I feel like my ability to shoot and score the basketball, my IQ, and my ability to make plays for myself and others of the bounce.
