The Basketball Interview: John Newman (2018)
Going into his senior season, John Newman will be handed the reigns of the thoroughbred that is Greensboro Day School. With the graduation of JP Moorman, this is going to be Newman’s team next season.
Team CP3 is where you will find Newman, who is ranked as the #4 player in PrepHoopsNC class of 2018 this summer playing on the Nike EYBL circuit. PrepHoopsNC caught up with John this week to discuss his season and what is going on with his recruitment.
PrepHoopsNC: How’s the AAU season going?
John Newman: AAU season hasn’t really kicked off yet we’ve only played in one little startup tournament but I’m excited about the pieces we have on our team this year .
PrepHoopsNC: What game or event are you looking forward to?
John Newman: I’m looking forward to the whole EYBL season. Not necessarily one game in particular but just the competition and vibe when you walk into the events. I’m looking forward to playing in bangers every weekend.
PrepHoopsNC: What schools have you been hearing from?
John Newman: I’ve been hearing from NC State and Butler the most here recently out of the schools that have not yet offered me.
PrepHoopsNC: What do you feel that you need to improve on?
John Newman: I think I need to improve on creating my own shot, being more assertive on the offensive end, and handling the ball under pressure.
PrepHoopsNC: What are the parts of your game that set you apart from other players.
John Newman: What sets me apart from other players is the fact that I can do whatever I need to do to win games. I am confident that I posses all the necessary tools to be a winner and great ball player. Now It’s just about honing those skills and getting stronger, more athletic and utilizing them at the right time. Not many people can score and stop their man from scoring , there also aren’t many people that want to be a two-way guy but it’s definitely something I take pride in.
