Recruiting Report: Ja’Lyn Foster (2017)
Former Catholic High standout Ja’Lyn Foster has had an interesting turn of events since he stopped playing with the Crusaders mid-season this past winter.
The 6’4 small forward is still enrolled at the school still, but left the team during the season, and was picked up by an area hoops program which he’s been able to showcase his ability with ever since.
“The coach from a little prep school, more like an AAU team (Capital City Crusaders) that’s just getting started, got a hold of me and said he’d love for me to play with them. And I’ve been playing with them the past three months,” said Foster.
“I’ve been doing well, I’m probably averaging 12 or 13 points and I was able to contribute right away.”
Earlier this spring, Foster says Capital City Crusaders played against D2 Oklahoma Christian and performed well. He says their coach talked to him after the game, and said he’ll keep in touch.
“He told me to just keep working, and that he’d stay in touch,” said Foster.
Foster says he’s played in tournaments in North Carolina, Texas and Oklahoma since he joined Capital City.
“The coach from Sam Houston (State) talked to me and some other teammates and said he liked the way we played that weekend, and he definitely wants to see more of us.”
With a strong presence on the glass, and an ability to knock-down a 12-footer, there’s plenty that’s desirable about Foster’s game. And he’s been working to diversify his skill-set.
“I’m still a great rebounder, I would say; that’s my strongest suit. And definitely my handles and my pull up has gotten better. And my mid-range has always been my bread-and-butter,” he said.
“I’m working on my 3-pointer; it’s not great, but it’s not terrible, and I still have to work on that.”
Foster says eventually, sometime in the near future, he’d like to be enrolled in a prep school. He says that one extra year would benefit him greatly.
“I would like to get that one more year to showcase what I can do. I want to work on everything, and I want that one year to work on my maturity and definitely the physical aspect, that’s what I really want to work on,” said Foster.
“The ultimate goal is to get as many offers as possible, and then take my visits and decide where I want to go to school at.”
