WNC/Upstate Showcase Notes Part II
The Justin Byerly Upstate/WNC Showcase was held at Easley Rec Center in Easley, South Carolina over this past weekend and almost 100 players participated. College coaches from Mars Hill University and prep school coaches from Moravian Prep, media and scouts were in attendance. Here is a look at some of the notes from the event.
Lake McIntosh of Enka HS. Athletic, good form on shot, high basketball IQ. With Jake Smith and Jay Walton, Enka should be good next year.
2017 unsigned senior Trey Irby of Asheville HS is very athletic,
good shooter, brings a lot of energy to the gym and plays above the rim. Has been getting interest from Winston-Salem State University since the event.
Trey Smith, a 2019 5’10 PG out of Landrum HS started off well in the 2nd game scoring 16 pts, distributed the ball well, had 5 steals. In the 3rd game, Smith went 7-10 from three and
finished with 32 points.
Foster Bridges, a 6’5 SG from Landrum HS played well all day, handled the ball well and used his size to knock down elevated jumpers.
6’5, 2018 Zyrion Wilkins can finish with contact, put the ball on the floor, and can knock down outside shot and did a little of everything for his team.
6’6, 2020 Brenton Benton of Daniel HS is long and athletic, blocked shots. Only a freshman, he will be one to keep an eye on.
6’1 Kendrell Generette of Socastee (SC) is a really good lead guard. Makes the right passes and can score off the dribble.
2018 G Tai Giger played well all day yesterday. Strong guard with a good frame. Can hit mid-range pull up and attack the basket.
2020 CJ Plantin of Pendleton HS is going to be good. Has all of the tools, can score it, rebounds, athletic, can take over a game.
2017 PG Olufemi Boko is as quick as they come. Strong guard with a great handle. Good passer and can set teammates up with the ball.
