Tournament Stock Risers: Underclassmen
A few players made an impression during the five games I saw last week. Admittedly, there’s more future Division I players included here than you’ll usually find on this site. However, there’s plenty of possible Division III talents, including prospects who were previously off the PHO radar.
Regardless of what level we project these players to land at, these are the players who played better than expected last week.
Zeb Jackson (2020), 5’11” G, Maumee Valley
Zeb Jackson, who holds multiple Division I offers, may be the best freshman in Ohio. Although he wasn’t connecting from deep, his shot attempts are always contested because of the defensive attention. He passed the ball excellently and is clearly an elite talent. It will be interesting to see him against premier competition this summer.
Trey Syroka (2019), 5’9” G, Whitmer
The book is yet to be written on Trey Syroka, mainly because he’s undeveloped physically. When Syroka started looking for his shot in the second half, he became a threat. He’s able to get some separation with his crossover, but was too eager to pass around the rim. Also a good shooter from deep.
Detric Yoder (2019), 5’9” PG, Pettisville
Yoder was effective from the mid-range against Fayette on Tuesday. He’s going to need to add some bulk, but could end up being a Division III prospect because of his fundamental soundness and shooting.
Darrion Henry, 6’4” G, and Aaron Ward, 6’6” F (2020)
Although Henry was the only Princeton freshman who logged minutes against La Salle, it was clear that these two fit the bill physically. These two are far along in their physical development, making them an area of interest going into the summer.
