Scouting and Highlights: Jimmy Bell (2018)
Jimmy Bell is a 6’11” junior center for Saginaw Arthur Hill. His potential is obviously high, something college coaches have noticed as he’s received D1 interest and even a couple offers. The sky is the limit for the big man, and he will go as far as his work ethic takes him.
Here’s my take on Bell’s game:
Strengths:
Rebounding – It’s hard not to be at least a somewhat decent rebounder when you’re 6’11”, but Bell does an above average job. He’s not very athletic, so he doesn’t elevate well, but he does a good job using his height and length to rebound over people.
Finishing – He’s got a soft touch around the rim. While he’s not going to finish above the rim, he does a good job finishing through/over people.
Shooting – While he doesn’t often float around the three point line, he’s capable of hitting a mid-range jumper consistently. His form looks smooth and comfortable, so a mid-range shot is well within his arsenal.
Size – You simply can’t teach 6’11”. He’s definitely a bit overweight, but as long as his mobility isn’t an issue, his size will make him an even tougher rebounder and tougher matchup in the post.
Areas For Development:
Mobility – Bell will most definitely need to become more mobile in order to be successful in college. This is something that could come with losing some weight. Becoming more mobile will help in all aspects of his game.
Defense – This will come with more mobility. Bell needs to be able to step out to the three point line to hedge a screen, or he will be a complete liability on defense. This is something that simply comes with putting time in the gym, so as long as Bell has the work ethic it will be a simple fix.
