Recruiting Report: Trevor Grove (2017)
There’s a 6-foot-6 shooting guard in Dallas Center-Grimes that’s up for grabs. And he’ll be on full-display next week at Wells Fargo Arena.
And because of Trevor Grove’s late-starting successes with the Mustangs (he played sparingly as a junior) there’s been little recruitment come his way.
Now a senior sharpshooter, Grove says that he’s nearly made up his mind that he’ll head to Iowa State just to study. But that decision was predicated on the fact that he had little to no college interest.
“I didn’t play really much at all my junior year, so I never really thought I had a chance with recruitment and I ruled it out early. So I think I’m just going to Iowa State next year,” said Grove.
“I’ve talked to a few schools; Central a little bit, Iowa Central too, but not too much.”
Grove is willing to consider playing college hoops, but isn’t interested in playing Division III. If an NAIA, JuCo or Division II school became interested, he’d listen.
“Unless something changes, I’ll probably headed to ISU. I’m not opposed to people talking to me, I guess something higher level would interest me,” said Grove. “I’m not too interested in going to a D3.”
A rangy shooting guard with a silky stroke from deep, Grove averaged 15.7 points this season for the Mustangs during the regular season, shot 40 percent from deep and 54 percent from the floor, and pulled down 5.8 rebounds.
“I started the season off as a 3-point shooter, just getting a lot of open looks from 3. But as of lately I’ve been getting a lot of shots off in the lane; drives and floaters and curl-cuts. And I’ve been using my height and posting up smaller guards,” said Grove.
“I didn’t really come into the season expecting to be the leading scorer or anything like that, but it’s been a pleasant surprise, I guess.”
