Gbadebo III, a 3.8 GPA student, is being patient with the recruitment process, and is therefore unbothered with a lack of offers.
“Honestly, there’s like four months left. Like four months left in the year. So, whatever schools talk to me, whatever the best fit is for me is as a player. And then, academically and what my family thinks, that’s where I’m going to go,” Gbadebo III said.
It’s hard to determine which divisional level he will end up at, and the diversity of schools showing interest reflect that. Over the past few months he’s received interest from the following: Pennsylvania, Rider (NJ), Covenant (GA), Tampa (FL), and Chicago (IL).
Gbadebo III is serious about academics, making it an important factor towards his decision.
Gbadebo III, who is originally from Ontario, has been measuring himself against some of the best point guards in the country the past two years. This is his first year at Spire, but he played a national schedule last season also with Quality Education (NC).
“I started at my public school in Canada, because I’m from Canada originally. I started out at my public school, was there for two years. Then, my junior year, which was last year, I transferred down to North Carolina to play at Quality Education. There we played a big time national schedule — we played Prolific, Huntington, Hillcrest, all those top schools. Then, something happened there where our classes weren’t counting, so we all had to, every player left,” Gbadebo III said.
Although the conflict didn’t set back Gbadebo III’s timetable on graduation, he had to find a new school.
“A few of my friends went to Spire and told me to come there,” Gbadebo III said.
At Spire, he’s been able to continue working on his game against premier competition. The team is currently in Myrtle Beach for a tournament, and will travel to West Virginia for another afterwards.
Gbadebo III believes the travel has helped in preparation for the college ranks.
“You see who you’re going to play at the next level. We just play the top players. Like we played Trevon Duval. We played Sunrise, all those type of teams with multiple D-I players, high major,” Gbadebo III said.
The Canadian-born point guard has built a nice résumé over the past few seasons. For colleges, especially premier academic institutions, looking for a point guard who can do it all, it might be a good time to reach out to Gbadebo III.
