Recruiting Report: Royshawn Webb (2017)
Recently featured as 2017’s biggest riser in Iowa, Cedar Rapids Jefferson point guard Royshawn Webb burst onto the scene this season as one of the state’s top players.
The 6-foot-1 senior averaged 15.4 points, 3.0 assists and 6.0 rebounds per game for an upstart J-Hawks squad, and college programs have certainly taken notice.
“College basketball is definitely something that I want to do, and this year I’ve picked up a lot more attention than what I had, with schools from around Iowa,” said Webb, who recently wrapped up his senior season.
“Schools that have been contacting me so far have been Mount Mercy, Iowa Wesleyan, Iowa Central, Cornell and Iowa Lakes a little bit. From a recruiting standpoint I just want to do whatever is best for me.”
Whichever school he picks, and at whatever level he plays — whether Division III or JuCo — his college team can expect a slasher, who sets teammates up for success.
“I like to attack a lot and just try and get to the hoop and create plays,” said Webb. “And I like to play at pretty fast pace. And I just like to help out my teammates and do whatever it takes to win.”
Another thing — and perhaps most importantly — that Webb takes pride in, is his ability to lead his teammates, both on and off the court.
“I’m one of the team leaders; I like to set the tone in practice and set the tone in the game. I try and lead by example, and I talk to my teammates on and off the floor,” said Webb. “I like to be a leader on the floor, and be a second coach on the floor and take a little pressure of our coaches.”
