Recruiting Report: Jacob Boonyasith (2018)
After a stellar junior season with Jenison, 6-foot-3 guard Jacob Boonyasith was able to pick up his first offer, and continued to stay in contact with a couple Midwest Division I programs.
Michigan Division II Grand Valley State offered the talented 2018 just before his junior season started. But Boonyasith is really hoping for some Division I offers before his summer is done.
“I still have some schools talking to me, Central Michigan mostly throughout this season,” said Boonyasith.
“I’m really hoping to play D1, not much in me wants to play Division II basketball. I feel like I’m definitely at the level to play Division I, no question in my mind; it’s just about going out and proving it, and giving it all I got, and then living with the result.”
He added: “I don’t really know what’s going to happen this summer, all I know is I have a couple D1 schools like Youngstown State and Central Michigan that have been talking to me.”
Already with a nice all-around skill-set intact, Boonyasith says he’s been working on a little bit of everything since we spoke with him last summer.
“I’ve just been working on everything and trying to get better at every facet, just trying to get stronger and work on every little thing that will make be a better basketball player,” he said.
After averaging 24.2 points per game while leading his team to a 14-7 record, Boonyasith mentioned that even though his team didn’t advance as far as he would have liked, he was pleased with his junior season.
“I feel like I did what I had to do. I thought my role was to carry the team, and I feel like I did a pretty good job with that,” he said.
“I’ve grown in becoming a leader, especially being an upperclassmen finally. And I just have to keep working on talking all the time, especially on defense and stuff like that.”
This summer he’ll switch his grassroots allegiances from ENB to Grand Rapids Storm.
“The reason I made the switch was because I was just looking for a good fit, and I feel like my role on this team will be a better fit for myself than with the teams I was on in the past,” said Boonyasith.
“And my expectations coming in is to just my thing, and just play my game.”
