Recruiting Report: Amir Foster (2017)
Senior Amir Foster, a 6’1” defensive-oriented guard, is in a rare recruiting situation. Although Foster hasn’t received a scholarship offer this late into his senior season, it feels like there’s plenty of time left. Simply because his team, Trotwood Madison, is likely to keep winning, giving him more opportunities for exposure.
“The key, we just got to play together as a team. Just keep sharing the ball. I think when we keep sharing the ball, nobody can really stop us. Because we have so many threats,” Foster said.
His goal all season has been winning the State Championship. It continues to be, even though most seniors would have recruitment lingering in their mind at this point.
“I feel like if we win States, then [recruitment] will start coming,” Foster said.
Foster’s role in the playoff run is primarily as a defensive force. Trotwood Madison is a high pressure team on the defensive side. They force turnovers and make ball-handlers uncomfortable for 94 feet. Foster’s job is to be the best individual in that scheme, as he guards the point guard usually.
“I usually guard the best player and if the best player doesn’t get off, then we usually win,” Foster said.
While he’s 6’1”, a point guard’s size, Foster’s long arms, athleticism, and effort will allow him to guard 2-guards and even wings at the next level.
Speaking of next level, Marietta is the only team who has told Foster that he can play with them next season.
Otherwise, Labette Community College (KA) is the only school showing interest.
“I’ve been getting D-III interest. Then I got JUCO interest after that game last night,” Foster said. (Labette is the school he’s referring to, when he says that the JUCO interest begain after the Urbana game last night.)
Foster, being accustomed to Trotwood’s distinct style would like to find something similar in a college.
“I want to go somewhere that plays really fast, goes up and down,” Foster said.
The senior carries a 2.8 GPA and a 19 ACT score. Scouts can watch Trotwood in the Regional semis against Cincinnati Taft on March 16.
