Prospect Spotlight: Zack Paulsen (2019)
Curtis sophomore Zack Paulsen was a key piece to the Vikings as a sophomore, starting every game and ending the season with a bang, taking momentum with him into his 16U offseason.
A 6-foot-4 guard, Paulsen described to PHWA exactly what it is he brings to the table when he’s on the floor.
“I feel like my biggest strength is just being a natural scorer, I kind of just find a way to score. And I’m really big on leadership, so just leading on the court too is a strength of mine,” said Paulsen.
Though he started a bit slow this past winter, he says once he got more aggressive, it made a positive impact on his game.
“It took me a little while to get going, towards the end of the season is when I really started getting it together and scoring more,” he said. “Right before playoffs I’d say, I was more aggressive then.”
This spring and summer he’ll run with Washington Supreme for his 16U offseason.
“This summer we’re going to be able to get into a lot of the showcase tournaments where people will be watching. So my main role on that team is to be the main scorer and get the ball in the hoop, and then find my teammates too,” said Paulsen.
“I want to sharpen my defensive skills and be able to guard anywhere on the court, and I want to strengthen my ball-handling as well.”
Just a sophomore, Paulsen has plenty of time for his recruitment to materialize.
“There’s been a little bit of interest, not a ton. Just a few emails, and I’ve talked to one college coach that has been to our practice so far, that was Boise State,” said Paulsen, who says getting an offer is a goal of his this summer.
“It’s definitely one of my goals I would say, and I’m looking to reach that goal this summer.”
He added: “I’m really looking forward to this summer, and trying to get a lot of looks and getting my name out there.”
