Atlantic has had a nice run of tall and lengthy wings come through its program the past several seasons, and it appears Austin Alexander is next in line.
A 6-foot-6 guard, Alexander recently wrapped up a fine junior season with the Trojans, one in which he helped guide them to the state tournament.
After playing with Southwest Iowa Select last offseason, he’s planning playing with Kingdom Hoops for his 17U campaign.
He’s hoping to see some Division II interest come in this spring and summer, in addition to his already existing NAIA and D2 interest.
“So far I’ve just been talking to a couple NAIA schools; Dordt and Northwestern. And then I’ve had a couple D2s reach out, like Nebraska-Kearney and Sioux Falls,” said Alexander.
“I’m hoping to get some more Division II schools looking at me throughout the summer, and we’ll see from there I guess.”
This past season with the Trojans, Alexander averaged 11.9 points and shot the ball well from deep, connecting on 56 3s at a 46 percent clip. He also led the team assists, dishing out 4.0 per game.
“This year I kind of think of myself as more of a leader of our team, and I’m also a pretty good shooter, and I handle the ball for our team,” said Alexander.
“I think my junior year was kind of a bounce-back season for me. I shot the ball a lot better from long range and I got the rim more. I expanded my game, and did a little bit of everything this season.”
Any NAIA, Division III or Division II coaches seeking a versatile 6-foot-6 guard, might want to check out Alexander this summer.
“I’m comfortable at the point guard spot, but I think I’m most comfortable off the ball, playing a two or three,” said Alexander. “And I think that’s what I’m looking to play at the next level.”
