Player Spotlight : Tavarus Peterson (2017)
School: Mount Zion
Class: 2017
Height: 6’3
Position: Guard
Tavarus Peterson is a young man we have got to see quite a few times over the past couple years, and I must say, during this most recent time of seeing him play I came away very impressed. My first time really watching him play was with Juice All-Stars over the summer prior to the 2016 high school basketball season. He a very natural scorer and seeing him the past weekend at Fab 40 camp, I can truly say he has continued to add to his ability to score the ball as well as other assets. He already has a college level body, you don’t have to watch him very long to see that he has spent his time in the weight room and he doesn’t mind contact at all.
What makes him special?
Even though he was always a gifted scorer is perimeter shooting has improved, that was on full display as he won the Fab 40 Camp 3 point shootout. He’s more than just a scorer though, he’s improved in just about every area of the game including his ball handling skills. When you combine his ball handling skills, next level college frame, shooting ability, and improved defense, then you have a player that is flat out difficult to defeat. His recruitment at this point has been pretty quiet with Sandhills CC & Saint Andrews University showing interest in him at this point. One thing that I really like about Tavarus is he is a player that is all about business, you won’t see him saying much but his game speaks very high volume.
Quote from his Coach: Mt Zion HC Barnett ‘‘Tavarus is an athletic combo guard, he can score in bunches by either going to the basket or his outside shooting. Will be an asset to his future college team in a number of ways.’’
