Notes from Upstate/WNC Showcase
The Justin Byerly Upstate/WNC Showcase was held at Easley Rec Center in Easley, South Carolina over this past weekend and almost 100 players participated. College coaches from Mars Hill University and prep school coaches from Moravian Prep, media and scouts were in attendance. Here is a look at some of the notes from the event.
2019 F Donta King from Woodmont (SC) was impressive today. 2019 forward is long and strong. Reminds me of Tennesee frosh Grant Williams. Has the college ready body.
2017 forward Markese Lynch of North Henderson was good today. Athletic, bouncy, had some
highlight dunks. All-Conference this season. Unsigned senior had some highlight dunks throughout the day.
2019 G D’Angelo Elliot has a motor, really good in transition, strong defender with long arms. Good size for position.
Cleo Canty is a good one. Can finish in transition, very athletic, can put it on the floor and score off the dribble.
Big man Cooper Fowler, a 2019 center from JL Mann HS (SC) will be one to follow. 6-10, good feel, soft touch, good footwork, blocks shots, gets rebounds.
Unsigned Fred Patterson played well all day. Can score it and defend. Good in the open floor, unsigned senior out of West Caldwell HS
2018 PG Isaiah Pruett of Reynolds HS is one to take a look at. Tough PG who makes the right plays. Has a really good shot and is quick with the ball in his hands.
Recent Lees-McRae commit Quay Kimble was steady as usual today. Hard to stay in front of and a pure scorer. Knows how to win.
2018 W Max Spurling of ACA does a little bit of everything well. Talented wing who can score, defend, rebound. Good size at position.
2018 G Jake Smith of Enka HS is going to be a special player. Great shot, high basketball IQ, understands the angles, let’s Game come to him.
2019 G Zach Baldinelli of Boiling Springs (SC) was impressive all day. Smooth lefty that is athletic and has great court vision. Can finish at above the rim. 2019.
