MEC Conference All-League Team
The high school season has completed across the Tar Heel State. Prep Hoops takes a look at Mideastern Conference All-League Team. The Mideastern Conference consist of the 4 Wilmington Public Schools, South Brunswick, West Brunswick and Topsail.
1st Team
Freddie Taylor (2018)- New Hanover (Wilmington) – Player of the Year
Taylor a 5’9 point guard led the Wildcats to a (23-7) record this season. Taylor has been a fixture in the Wildcats offense since his freshman season. Taylor averaged 10.8 ppg, 3.5 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 1.7 steals this season.
Ramello Williams
Ramello Williams (2018) – New Hanover (Wilmington)
Williams just 6’2 plays the game with no true position on the floor. Williams generally plays in the paint for the Wildcats. “Ramello plays so much bigger than his size in the paint and is always around the ball on both ends of the floor” said Prep Hoops Bret Swanson. Williams averaged 15.4 ppg and 7.2 rebounds this season for the Wildcats.
Robert Wilkerson (2017) – Hoggard (Wilmington)
Wilkerson will take his talents to the ball field and play baseball next season at Coker College (SC) (D2). Wilkerson averaged 11.6 ppg this season for the Vikings (18-9).
Josh Woodard (2017) – West Brunswick (Shallotte)
Woodard 6’6 led the Trojans (17-9) this season. Woodard has received NCAA D2 interest this spring. Woodard played AAU with Flight 22 last summer.
Daitreon Daye (2017) – Ashley (Wilmington)
Daye 5’10 guard recently had ACL surgery according to Screaming Eagles Head Coach Webster Guthrie. Daye averaged 9.1 ppg, 2.8 assists and 2.7 rebounds this season. The Screaming Eagles finished the season at (16-10).
2nd Team
Chris Bennett (2017) – Laney (Wilmington)
Bennett a strong tweener on the floor led the Buccaneers with 13.5 ppg and 6.7 rebounds this season. The Buccaneers finished the season at (10-15) under Head Coach Nathan Faulk.
Alec Baker (2017) – Topsail (Hampstead)
Baker a 6’0 guard averaged 14.7 ppg and 4 rebounds this season for the Pirates.
Altavon Mack (2017) – Ashley (Wilmington)
Mack led the Screaming Eagles in scoring at 12.1 ppg and 3.7 rebounds per night.
Brandyn Parker (2017) – West Brunswick (Shallotte)
Parker a strong built point guard at 6’0 was a leader on the floor this season for the Trojans. Parker a track athlete also scored 28 points vs Ashley earlier this season.
Tyler Steinman (2018) – Hoggard (Wilmington)
Steinman a shooter averaged 9.9 ppg this season for the Vikings.
