Louisiana Top 28: 1A All Tournament Teams
First Team
Devion Dunbar 6’2 2018 G Sicily Island
Dunbar is a do-it-all combo guard that can fill up the stats sheet in a hurry. He averaged nearly 26 points per game for Sicily Island this season, but White Castle did a good job of game planning for him and slowing the game down, allowing him only 19. You know someone is special when it’s impressive to hold someone to “only 19.”
Lamont Bass 5’10 2018 G Tensas
Tensas relied mostly on a balanced approach on the offensive end, and tough defense on the other side of the ball, but Bass was the leading scorer in Tensas’ first ever title game, and that deserves a spot on the first team.
Tylan Dean 6’0 2017 G Lincoln Prep
Dean came out firing from downtown, and couldn’t be stopped. He hit three threes in the first quarter, and finished with a game high 26 points against Tensas. Had Dean not fouled out with 3 minutes to go, it might have been a much different end of the season for Lincoln Prep.
Princeton Young 6’5 2017 F White Castle
Young was the second leading scorer for White Castle in the state championship game. Young was a big reason that White Castle picked up a lead early, scoring 11 of his 13 points in the first half.
Ja’Tyre Carter 6’6 2017 F White Castle MVP
Carter was an absolute monster in both games, and there was not a single player in 1A that could stop him. He was one of the most fun players to watch over the entire week, and if you like an old school post game, you will love watching him play.
Second Team
Kaedrick Williams 6’5 2017 F Lincoln Prep
Williams was a huge part of why Lincoln Prep was so successful this season. On the defensive end, Williams was able to use his length and athleticism extremely well in their trapping system, and was able to protect the rim. On the offensive end, Lincoln Prep ran their offense through Williams at the high post, and Williams was able to use his supreme play making abilities to set up his teammates.
Tyreke Tolliver 6’1 2020 G Sicily Island
Despite being just a freshman, Tolliver was Sicily Island’s second option on the offensive side of the ball, and he excelled in his role, averaging over 17 ppg this season. Tolliver can really score from all over the court, and I am really looking forward to watching his game grow.
Chanse Robinson 6’0 2020 G Lincoln Prep
Robinson is another extremely impressive freshman, but you would never guess he was just a freshman by looking at him. Robinson has a thick, muscular frame, and there are rumors he already possessed a 40+ inch vertical. He can score in a bunch of different ways, and he is in the running for top overall freshman when those rankings come out later this summer.
Tre’ Melancon 6’2 2018 F White Castle
Melancon is another G/F tweener for White Castle that was capable of holding down the offense, especially when Ja’Tyre Carter was in foul trouble in the first half in the semifinals.
