Louisiana Div. III All-State Selections
First Team:
Jared Butler 6’3 G 2018 Riverside
Jared Butler is as polished a play as you will find in Louisiana, which is rare. Usually with players in Louisiana, they have the athletecism, but they are still waiting for the skill set to catch up. However, with Butler it is the opposite. He is a relatively limited athlete, but he is insanely skilled. He has range well beyond the NBA line, and can get to the rim at will. I expect him to rack his choice of scholarships over the summer.
Jordan Wright 6’5 G 2019 Dunham
Wright is the top player for his class, and it is easy to see why. With his combination of size and handles, he is a matchup nightmare. If you want to put a big on him, he will simply use his speed to get around him. If you want to put a smaller guy on him, he will use his size to bully the defender. The biggest question mark about Wright in the past has been his jump shot, but he has shown steady improvement on that end, and I look for him to continue to get better.
Norris Williams Jr. 6’0 G 2019 Archbishop Hannan
For those of you that haven’t yet been introduced to Norris Williams Jr. he is definitely a name to know going forward. He has a very good chance at being the top ranked point guard in our 2019 rankings that we are planning on releasing in April. He averaged nearly 20 ppg, which along with over 3 steal per game is some really astounding numbers for just a sophomore.
Cameron Dumas 5’8 G 2018 Episcopal
Dumas was the best player on one of the top teams in Division III this season. He is clearly a very smart player, and he is capable of using his speed as a weapon. He has a shifty game, and can get to the rim. He can make the right read, and set up his shooter around him to get open shots.
Romin Williams MVP 5’10 G 2017 Country Day (Emory College commit)
With three state titles under his belt, Romin Williams is one of the most successful basketball players in the history of Louisiana, and there isn’t much he can’t do. He is a high volume scorer, and when he is going, there isn’t many that can stop him. He has earned multiple D1 offers, but has chosen to put his education first by committing to Emory College.
Second Team:
Riley Demps 6’2 G 2018 Newman
If you want to get buckets, then Riley Demps is the man you need to call. He was one of the highest scoring players in the state this season, and somehow managed to do it extremely effectiently. Najja Engelton 6’2 G 2017 David Thibodaux (Central CC commit)
Najja Engelton is another player in Division III that was a prolific scorer all season long. He averaged over 18 ppg, and there were games that he simply couldn’t be stopped. He was the first player in school history with multiple 30+ point games in a season, and graduates as the leading scorer in school history.
Mike Wilson 6’3 F 2018 Dunham
Wilson was a very reliable second option for Dunham this season, and time and time again came up big for them. He uses his big frame to get rebounds, and is able to defend at a very high level. On offense, he is best used around the rim and finishing dump downs in traffic.
Travonte’ Sam 6’6 G 2018 David Thibodaux
Travonte’ Sam is one of the most intriguing prospects of the 2018 class, because of his unique skill set for his size. On the defensive end, you will be hard pressed to find someone who is more capable of locking down the other team’s best player. With his combination of athleticism and over 7’ wingspan, he can also do a great job of protecting the paint. On the offensive end, he can run the point if need be, as he lead David Thibodaux in assists this season. He also has range that extends well beyond the high school 3 point line.
