Louisiana 3A All-State Selections
Kevin Norman 6’4 F 2017 Peabody
Kevin Norman was able to do a lot for his team this year. He showed that he is capable of making the transition to the wing on offense, while still providing rebounding and rim protection on the defensive side. He is capable of defending the other team’s best player as well as being the main option when Cedric Russell was having an off game.
Larry Owens 6’8 F/C 2017 Carroll (Northwestern St. commit)
Owens has the size and agility to be a monster, and he was all season for Carroll. When he get down onto that block, there are very few people in the state capable of stopping him, as he can just power nearly anyone that tries to get in his way. He also showed off a developing 15 foot jumper that he will be able to use at the next level.
CJ Jones 5’10 G 2017 Wossman (Northwestern St. commit)
Just by watching his game, there is little doubt that he is the son of a coach. He plays an extremely heady game, even at the high pace that he likes to play, which is rare. He is capable of making the right decision more often than not, whether that be to pass or score. On defense, he can use his quickness to stay in front, and I expect him to be a lockdown defender at the next level.
Dexter Dennis 6’5 F 2017 Baker
Dexter Dennis’ transfer from Southern Lab might have had the single biggest impact on a team in the state. Had he still been at Southern Lab, they might have won the state championship this season, instead of LCA. But instead, he was far and away the best player for Baker, and as a result put up some ridiculous numbers. Over the course of the season, Dennis put up 25 ppg and 15 rpg while leading Baker to a top 10 seed in the playoffs.
Cedric Russell MVP 6’3 G 2017 Peabody (ULL commit)
Russell showed once again this season why he is a top 5 player in the state for the 2017 class. He scored the most amount of points in a single game this season, when he went for 54 against Jennings in the regular season, which included going 16/25 from three, which according to the LHSBCA website is the most made threes in a game in school history. He is more than capable of finding open teammates in positions where they can be most successful, as he also lead Peabody in assists this season. Cedric Russell is something special.
