Louisiana 1A All-State Selections
First Team:
Devion Dunbar 6’2 G 2017 Sicilly Island
Dunbar was asked to do it all for his team, and he has the talent to be able to bear that load. He is a combo guard that does most of his work in the paint. When he drives to the goal, he is more than capable of finding the open man, as he lead his team in both points and assists.
Tylan Dean 5’10 G 2017 Lincoln Prep
From the second that Tylan Dean walks into the gym, he is in range. He can shoot from anywhere on the court, and showed off that elite shooting ability all season. However, what I think is underrated about his game is just how good he is on defense, as he lead his team both in points and steals, at 18 and 4.5 respectively. He ranked in the top 75 nationally in steals per game.
Anthony Boston 6’0 G 2017 Arcadia
When you get the combination of athleticism and basketball IQ that Anthony Boston posessess, you are bound to be special. You will be hard pressed to find a quicker first step in the state, and he knows what to do once he gets into the paint. He went for a season high 48 back in December against Simsboro, which shows the heights that his game is capable of reaching.
Ja’tyre Carter White 6’6 C 2017 White Castle
For my money, Ja’tyre White was the best post player in the state. If he was two inches taller, he would have every school in the state high on him. With his size and width, I don’t see a player that is capable of handling him 1 on 1, and he is the biggest reason that White Castle won the state championship this season.
Kaedrick Williams MVP 6’5 F 2017 Lincoln Prep
Kaedrick Williams this season was a virtual swiss army knife for Lincoln Prep. He was capable of doing anything and everything that his team asked of him. On the offensive end, Lincoln Prep ran their offense through Williams at the high post, and he found the open man reguarly. As a result, despite his size, he lead Lincoln Prep in assists at over 4.5 per game. On the defensive end, he was a monster, averaging over 10 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game. He earned the MVP despite being the third leading scorer on his team, because he is capable of doing so much more than just scoring.
Second Team:
Lamonte Bass 6’0 G 2018 Tensas
Bass was the first option for Tensas, and as a result averaged over 17 points per game, and had multiple games at over 30 points. Tensas’ identity is built around its lock-down defense, so a large amount of the burden on offense fell on Bass’ shoulders.
Deshumbra Jones 6’2 F 2017 Delhi Charter
All season long, Jones was a double double machine, and as a result, Delhi Charter had the best season in school history. They were one of the three final undefeated teams left in the state, and made the deepest run in school’s playoff history.
Chanse Robinson 6’0 G 2020 Lincoln Prep
Robinson was second on the team in both scoring and rebounding, and when you can do that as a freshman guard, you are bound to be special. Robinson is a supremely talented and athletic guard, and can finish at and above the rim with the best of them. I would be very surprised if he isn’t on this list each of the next four years.
Tyreke Tolliver 6’2 G 2020 Sicily Island
When Devion Dunbar didn’t have the ball in his hands, it was Tolliver that was relied on to run the show, and he showed what he was capable of all season long. He was one of the best second options in the state, and I am very excited to see what he is capable of as the main guy for his team next season.
