Jacob Whitley to Catawba College
Catawba College has landed another in-state recruit for the upcoming season. Jacob Whitley, a 6-foot, senior shooting guard from West Stanly High School has committed to the Indians. Whitley helped the Stallions to a 17-10 record on the season.
Whitley is a good at penetrating the lane and off the dribble. He can run the floor well and can finish at the basket. Whitley has a high basketball IQ and can get position for rebounds.
“Everything about Catawba was what I was looking for in a school. I developed a good relationship with Coach Perron and the rest of the coaching staff. I’m happy to be an Indian,” Whitley said about choosing Catawba.
West Stanly High School reached the first round of the NCHSAA 2-A state playoffs, “I had a great senior season finishing my high school career with 1,057 career points. We finished the season 17-10, making it to the first round of the state playoffs. As a captain I feel that I was able to help lead the team in the right direction finishing with the first winning record in many years,” said Whitley regarding how his senior season played out.
One word that I have heard more than any about Whitley is what a great young man he is. Catawba will be getting a solid basketball player but an even better person. “As a Catawba Indian I hope to contribute on and off the court. I’ll bring a strong work ethic and a desire to get better everyday. Whatever Coach Perron asks of me I’ll give my all,” said Whitley.
