Weekend Wrap-Up February Week 1
These last few days have been very busy in the high school hoops world, players have committed to college, conference standings are becoming more concrete and team are finally getting their full rosters together. This all makes for what should be a fun ending to a high school basketball season that has been great to be a part of and fun to watch.
The Johnson Brothers return: Terry Sanford has struggled somewhat this season due to the graduation of multiple seniors but also due to the Malik and Telligence Johnson being unable to play. Well that changed on Friday night as they made their debut for the Terry Sanford Bulldogs, Malik would go on to finish with 9 Points and Telligence with 14. With the addition of the two young men, folks should be on the lookout for Terry Sanford to make some serious noise in the upcoming Conference Tournament.
Northwest Guilford Stars Commit to College: As we know by now, Point Guard Jalen Spicer has committed to North Carolina A&T, which is a very nice pickup for the program as Spicer is a very unselfish guard and high character player. However another star from Northwest Guilford has committed to a college as well and that’s Wing Reggie Davis, Davis is a very athletic player that has a knock for scoring the ball. He verbally committed to Lynchburg College and will be teaming up with Voyager Academy Guard Chance Greene who is finishing up his freshman season.
Jordan McNeill goes for 22: In a shootout with Richmond Senior the young freshman went for 22 Points, his team would come up short but Jordan is continuing to play at a very high level. He’s under the radar for many colleges but that should change very soon, in his last two games he’s averaged 21 points, 6.5 Rebounds and 6.5 Assists. He’s at 14 PPG, 5 RPG, 3 APG, and 2 SPG, not too bad at all for a young man that’s only a freshman
Cape Fear and 71st Battle for Conference Seeding, On Saturday: Saturday high school games are always interesting, especially when teams have to play the night prior. Cape Fear HS got a big win over EE Smith on Friday night, however they quick turnover definitely seemed to affect the Colts as they seemed to be a step slow on Saturday as 71st would go on to get the win.
Coby White continues his stellar play: UNC fans should truly be excited about what will be stepping on campus for the 2018-2019 season, Coby White has been dominating all season and this past weekend was no different. He went for 44 points, 11 Rebounds and 5 assist in a win over Wayne Country Day only to follow that up with a triple double of 29 Points, 12 Assist and 10 rebounds in a win over Cape Fear Christian.
