However when his team needed him the most he stepped up big time and put together one of the most impressive performance I got to see from him this season. With Fayetteville Academy losing a star wing player that was averaging around 17 PPG a night, there was a major hole in the team that needed to be filled when it comes to scoring the ball. Well on Championship night Demetrius Jones decided that he was going to fill that void to make sure that Fayetteville Academy would bring home the hardware.
What made his performance special?
During the regular season conference championship game Demetrius struggled offensively and would end up fouling out in the 4th quarter, he was clearly frustrated and disappointed with his performance so I was anxious to see how he would bounce back. Fast forward to the next week when they had a rematch with the exact same team for the conference tournament championship and we saw a totally different player. He played the game with a certain swagger and confidence that was missing in the last game, he knocked down the trey ball at a solid rate and attacked the basket. What was the most impressive thing to me was his defensive intensity and the way he rebounded the ball from the guard spot. Although he played the passing lane and came up with steals he also did a great job of containing his man and not allowing any easy buckets by coming up with blocked shots. He would finish the game with 18 points on the night. His efforts would earn him All-Tournament honors on the night and the respect of not only the opposition but all the fans in attendance. At this point his recruitment is wide open, he’s heard from several D3 programs and will be one to watch closely during the state tournament and at the spring Basketball Elite Fab 40 Camp.
