Brown has only played three games due to transferring regulations, but he’s answered the bell thus far. He spent a good portion of his off-time making sure his grades were up to par. Now that he’s back on the court and not getting as many touches he deserves, Brown is finding other ways to affect the game.
“I’m kind of used to the team, but during the game I’ve noticed it’s a little different … So I’m just focusing on things I know I can do, like rebound and defend,” Brown said.
Brown is also showing an unusual amount of maturity off the court. Brown transferred from Toledo Bowsher to Walnut Hills this year. Brown is living by himself and has been showing a level of self-discipline that many college freshman struggle with in their first year away from home.
“I feel isolated right now. Just sitting by myself if I’m not playing basketball,” Brown explained.
The situation is likely one of the reasons Brown is hoping to find a school that embraces him as a person.
“If I feel like they care about me as a person, more than just basketball. Because right now I’m on my own, family is not involved in anything I do,” Brown said.
Currently, Brown has offers from Tiffin and Urbana. While Maryland Eastern Shore extended an offer at the beginning of the school year, Brown says things have cooled off with them.
“Maryland Eastern Shore was. I think they’re kind of backed off now, I’m not sure. My coach told me they were talking to him and planning to call me.” Brown explained.
He also mentioned that Lake Erie and Lincoln Memorial (TN) are the most recent teams to show interest.
One thing that is very clear about his recruitment process is that Brown would like to make a decision soon.
“If I get an offer that’s not too far, and I go on a visit and feel like it’s the spot for me, I’ll commit. Like right away,” Brown said.
For those looking to make a pitch to Brown, it seems that location, support, and comfort level, are the most influential factors on Brown’s decision. We’ve talked a lot about off-court factors, but rest assured Brown is a stud once he hits the hardwood. His athleticism at 6’7” makes him a potential D-I prospect, with a D-II floor. His rebounding and ability in transition separate him. Also, if he spent more time on his jump shot, he could probably shoot the three by the time he’s a sophomore.
Walnut Hills play tonight at home against Anderson High School.
