The quick-trigger shooter currently has an offer from Urbana. Additionally, a few Division III programs have welcomed him into their program.
“Mount St. Joseph’s in Cincinnati. Heidelberg. Alderson Broaddus in West Virginia. Hope College in Michigan. And that’s about it,” Young said.
Hope College, Mount St. Joseph’s, and Heidelberg, all are options for Young, along with Urbana.
Although Young did not disclose which school he’s decided upon, he did mention that playing style and academics are important to him.
“Academics, because I know that in four years I probably won’t be playing professional basketball. I’ll probably be more focused on going into life and working,” Young said, who carries a 4.0 GPA.
As mentioned, Young has a quick-trigger once he catches. That may be because he often catches the ball without a defender close enough to challenge, thanks to his off-ball movement.
“It’s always been a thing for coaches for me to be off the ball. So I really think a big part of my game is cutting, making sure my teammates are open before me, and the slip always, always works,” Young said.
The catch-and-shoot threat sets up driving lanes for Young, as well. On Friday, for example, he was able to get defenders airborne with a pump-fake. Once he created the advantage, Young attacked the rim hard and showed the ability to finished with both hands.
With that being said, Young will be likely most effective as a two-guard going forward.
Perimeter defense, athleticism, and ball-handling, are the areas Young said he’s working on during the off-season.
Monitor him by following @PrepHoopsOH closely for updates on his decision — it should come “soon.”
