Division II, Division III and NAIA programs have all taken a liking to the junior who possesses a diverse set of skills, and he recently visited a South Dakota D2, University of Sioux Falls.
“I think it went really well, that’s kind of the college that’s my favorite right now, and I’ve been looking into it quite a bit,” said Bandy. “It was just me on the visit, their coach invited me down. And before the game we toured the weight room and the campus a little bit — I’m hoping to go back down there this summer”
Other programs have been trying to get Bandy to come for an unofficial visit, and he is hoping to get to several more schools in the near future.
“I’ve talked to Southwest Minnesota State, and I’m going to go up there; I’ve been talking to their coach trying to set up a time. I’ve also talked to Upper Iowa, and I’m going to go up and visit there this summer,” said Bandy.
“And there’s some Division III programs like Loras and University of Dubuque, and then NAIA William Penn has talked to me about a potential scholarship.”
This summer he’ll again play with Dubuque-based Tri-State Steam for his 17U season, and says his development as a player is what’s most important.
“Most important I just want to improve as a player. And then I want colleges to see my potential, and how much I’ve improved and can continue to improve through my senior year and in college,” said Bandy.
At 6-foot-4, Bandy would be an undersized post at the next level, but his skill-set is diverse, and he mentioned to PHIA what his best strengths are as a player.
“I really feel like my vision is a strength of mine, and I like to branch out to the perimeter and drive the lane and kick out to teammates, and I like to hit my teammates when they’re cutting. So just my vision on the court is probably my main thing,” said Bandy.
“I’ve talked to my AAU coaches and we’re going to work this summer on getting me a more consistent outside shot, so that I can have that at the next level.”
This season with the Golden Eagles he averaged 7.1 points and 5.1 rebounds. And he says he and his team have made great strides since the beginning of the season.
“I started out kind of slow, I think the whole team did,” said Bandy. “But after the first couple of weeks, my play really improved, and it’s been a lot better. Right now I’m averaging probably 10 points more than i was the first part of the season.”
Bandy added: “Going into the postseason I think me as a player, and our team is as strong as its been all season.”
