Continue ReadingDuring his senior season, Jason Ellis (2017) has led Marion-Harding to the best record in the Mid-Ohio League. The 6’1” guard is also averaging just under 19.5 points per game.
“I score. I do everything really. I’m the leader and I have to score. I take control and make the big plays at the big moments,” Ellis said.
The biggest moment is going to come in a first round matchup against Columbus Northland on February 25.
However, that won’t be the last competitive basketball game Ellis competes in for his career. Ellis has been in contact with several Division III programs. The list is comprised of Ohio Northern, Marietta, Wittenberg, Heidelberg, Alfred (NY), and Bethany (WV).
Although these D-III programs cannot offer athletic scholarships, Ellis said “pretty much all of them” have told him there’s a spot on the roster for him next season.
Bethany College is the most recent to begin talks with Ellis. It’s the only school he is yet to visit. Ellis is likely to take that visit after the season.
As far as when a decision from Ellis is going to come, here’s what he had to say, “Not sure really. I was going to wait until after the season … I feel like weighing out my options and still being open to other options.”
As we’ve written before, Ellis will be a nice addition for team chemistry. He can definitely score the ball at a high rate, but he’s most consistent with just making the correct decision.
Given his patience with the recruitment process, there’s still time for other programs to make a push at him. Also, he mentioned last time that he’s “interested to get out of Ohio.” So, Ellis could end up anywhere in the country.
