The Race for Mr. Basketball
The Favorites
Brad Davison of Maple Grove. It was the week for Brad Davison that you would expect. Scored 24 in beating a solid Park Center team and then had 30 points, nine boards, and seven assists playing a partial game beating Spring Lake Park.
McKinley Wright of Champlin Park. The Rebels are still undefeated and in the most recent game they crushed Anoka 82-32. McKinley had 11 points, 6 boards, and 9 assists in 20 minutes played. Last Friday Wright had the most recent highlight with a triple double of 19 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists in a blowout win over an improved Coon Rapids team.
McKinley vs Brad. The Champlin Park vs Maple Grove game is Monday night and a massive crowd is expected at Maple Grove. Hopefully the game is online for those of us that can’t make it (dang parent teacher conferences). With Wayzata falling to Edina this Crimson/Rebel clash is essentially a 1 vs 2 match-up.
Final Five for Sure
Nathan Reuvers of Lakeville North. Because of the regular guard bias that comes with individual awards Nathan Reuvers is kind of chilling in spot three just hoping for a March run to take down the other heavyweights. Reuvers scored 34 on Tuesday against Shakopee, had 18 and 17 in a limited time crushing of Eagan, and put up 33 and 8 in a 15 point blowout of one of the best teams in Wisconsin (La Crosse Central) who has Nathan’s future teammate Kobe King.
Goanar Mar of DeLaSalle. The top player on the five time champions had 31 points and nine boards in a hammering of Kaukauna (Wisconsin) plus had 31 last week in a win over Fridley. The number one Islanders are 13-2 and Goanar is putting up 24 points and 9 boards a game.
The Fifth
Trae Berhow of Watertown-Mayer. Trae Berhow missed the game with New London-Spicer (a loss) because of illness but bounced back to put up a massive 33 points, 16 rebounds, four assists, and three blocks t beat Rockford on Tuesday. Huge game for the Prep Hoops Top 250 talent.
Jericho Sims of Cristo Rey. Sims highlight reel plays is finding a special spot in the committee hearts. The Texas signed talent went for 30+ in wins over Trinity and Hope Academy with double doubles in both games.
Isaac Johnson of Minneapolis North. The guy that has fought his way up this list is Minneapolis North (16-1) wing Isaac Johnson who is scoring 23 a game with seven boards a night. Johnson scored 26 in the big Polar win over Caledonia plus grabbed eight boards.
Theo John of Champlin Park. The Marquette signed top 200 big had a double-double of 17 and 11 against Andover as well as a triple double of 16 points, 10 boards, and 10 blocks beating the improved Coon Rapids squad.
