One of the Iowa’s best 2019s, 6-foot-1 guard Nick Timmerman could very well star on many other teams across the state, but is a role player with the Rams, waiting his turn to take the reins.
The Iowa Barnstormers product is a defensive-minded sharpshooter, and defined his playing style in his own words to PHIA.
“I like to start off my game defensively, getting a big stop or a steal or something like that, and that really fuels my offensive game,” said Timmerman.
“My shooting has been my biggest strengths the past couple of years, and passing has been one of my best assets. And I might only have a couple more inches to grow, so I’m really working on my ball-handling and transitioning into a point guard.”
As a starter for the state’s 2nd-ranked 4A squad, Timmerman is averaging 7.6 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.
“I think my role is just to play my game, the points will come here and there, but my coach just wants me to do the little things; the hustle plays are key, and rebounding, just do everything I can do,” he said.
“I feel like I played alright, I haven’t shot the ball really great this year which has been a little disappointing for me, but we’re 14-2 and that’s really all that matters to me.”
For Timmerman, there are no individual goals, just team ambitions.
“I really only have one goal and that’s to go down and win state this year, and I feel like our team has the talent to do that this year,” said Timmerman.
As soon as his sophomore season ends, Timmerman will head right into his 16U season with one of the Midwest’s best grassroots teams, Iowa Barnstormers.
“I’m really looking forward to this 16U season and getting that jump-started,” said Timmerman, who described what type of recruitment he’s looking for this summer.
“I just want to go to a school that appreciates me and wants me; I don’t want to go somewhere where I’m just another player, I want to go somewhere that really cared about me.”
