2018 prospect John Newman III has benefited from all of these. He recently picked up a scholarship offer from Georgia Tech and first year head coach Josh Pastner, who spent the last several years at Memphis. Newman stated, “It honestly means a lot to me. It says something when a coaching staff and team of that caliber puts that amount of trust in me there honestly isn’t much I can say but I always thank God for blessing me with the situations I’ve been in. Without him I wouldn’t be anything close to what I’ve become today , the player or the person. Coach Pastner and his staff have beaten a lot of great teams this season which has definitely caught my eye. Friday night , coach LaBarrie got a chance to see me play against Wesleyan and the next night, on the way to the Homecoming dance, he called and offered me a scholarship.”
John Newman recorded a team-high 18 points in a win vs. Boo Williams on Friday Night.Greensboro Day is ranked 15th in the country in the latest MaxPreps national basketball poll. Newman, along with Temple Unvirsity signee JP Moorman and NC Central signee Jordan Perkins have led Greensboro Day to a 28-3 record so far this season. The Bengals travel to High Point Christian Academy tonight for a battle with the NCISAA 3-A runner-up last season.
Newman states that he has also been hearing from UConn, Virginia Tech and Butler the most as of late. He has offers now from Georgia Tech, Clemson, Providence, Cincinnati, Wake Forest, James Madison, Old Dominion, Boston College and Charlotte.
This will be his last season playing on the Nike EYBL circuit when he suits up for Team CP3. I would expect Newman to make a college decision before the season begins next year and spend his senior season at Greensboro Day getting better at whatever college program he chooses wants him to improve on.
