Continue ReadingThis week’s Cincinnati Top 10 Prep Hoops rankings are the second to last rankings of the year. With the playoffs starting the week of the 20th, I would like to thank the teams in the top 10 and those who are not for a wonderful prep basketball regular season. So without any more hold up:
- Moeller (21-0, 5-0), Previous Rank: 1 – Mighty Moe wrapped another Greater Catholic League South championship with a 62-40 victory over conference for St. Xavier on Friday. Currently ranked number one in the state by the AP and 16th by Max Preps, the Crusaders wrap up their regular season Friday against Elder. The Crusaders will be a favorite to make it to Columbus for state championship weekend.
Upcoming Schedule: 2/17 vs. Elder, 7:30pm
- Summit Country Day (21-0, 12-0), Previous Rank: 2 – The Silver Knights are looking to wrap-up a perfect regular season Friday with a win against Seven Hills. Look for at least four members from this team to make the Miami Valley Conference Scarlet Division all-conference team. Summit is currently the 3rd ranked D-III in Ohio according to the new Associated Press poll.
Upcoming Schedule: 2/17 vs. Seven Hills, 7:30pm
- Oak Hills (18-3, 14-1), Previous Rank: 3 – Very simple for Oak Hills, win Friday versus Fairfield and they are outright Greater Miami Conference champions. The Highlanders are coming off of a solid 23 point victory over Sycamore on Tuesday.
Upcoming Schedule: 2/17 vs. Fairfield, 7:30pm
- La Salle (18-3, 3-2), Previous Rank: 4 – La Salle has bounced back with three straight wins after losing to Moeller on February 3rd. A potential matchup with Princeton in the state playoffs could await the Lancers on March 3rd.
Upcoming Schedule: 2/17 vs. St. Xavier, 7:30pm
- Hughes (17-3, 9-0), Previous Rank: 5 – Besides Moeller and Summit this is the hottest team in the city with a win streak that now sits at 15. The two seed in the Mason bracket in Division II, Big Red goes for a perfect conference record Friday against Shroder.
Upcoming Schedule: 2/17 at Shroder, 7:30pm
- Mason (17-2, 13-2), Previous Rank: 6 – The Comets are coming off of a very good win Tuesday against a tough Princeton team 50-44. This win comes after losing their first matchup with the Vikings January 31st. Junior forward Noah Pedelty has scored in double digits in 4 of the last 6 games for Mason.
Upcoming Schedule: 2/17 at Sycamore, 7:30pm
- Wyoming (20-1, 12-1), Previous Rank: 7 – Winners of 7 straight since suffering their only loss of the season to Indian Hills. The Cowboys are currently the 7th ranked D-II team in Ohio and are one of the top seeds in the southwest Ohio bracket Division II.
Upcoming Schedule: 2/17 vs. Deer Park
- Roger Bacon (17-4, 7-2), Previous Rank: 9 – Winners of four in a row, the Spartans got a boost in their win over Newport Catholic (Ky.) with the return of senior Justin Johnson. The 6’4 forward scored 9 points on 4 of 5 shooting from the floor to go along with 4 rebounds. This will be a big boost for a team with aspirations of playing in Columbus the end of March.
Upcoming Schedule: 2/17 vs. McNicholas, 7:30pm
- Taft (15-4, 6-2), Previous Rank: 8 – With a 2-3 record in their last 5 games, the Senators have picked the wrong time for a slide in their play. One has to wonder about the availability of Chris’seon Stringer for the playoffs.
Upcoming Schedule: 2/17 vs. Western Hills, 7:30pm
- Walnut Hills (11-2, 14-6), Previous Rank: Unranked – Coach Ricardo Hill notched another conference championship for Walnut this year and has his team peaking at the right team. Transfer Ron Brown has added size and scoring in the paint to an Eagles team with very good talent on the perimeter.
Upcoming Schedule: 2/17 at Kings, 7:30pm
