Northstar Hoops Minnesota National Guard — Team of the Week Jan 30-Feb 4
Here are this week’s options for Team of the Week presented by Minnesota National Guard:
Elk River
The Elks have been playing good basketball all year but had a phenomenal week. They beat a solid Coon Rapids team by 13 Tuesday before pulling two upset wins over Blaine and St. Cloud Tech. Elk River lost to Coon Rapids to start the year and lost to Blaine early in January. Wins over both clubs shows the Elks’ improvement as the season’s gone on.
St. Charles
The Saints bounced back from a difficult week that saw them lose two games to pick up a pair of quality wins. St. Charles went on the road and beat Kingsland 79-68 Tuesday before picking up a huge section win Saturday, knocking off No. 10 Lake City 78-67.
Mayer Lutheran
The Crusaders are suddenly on fire. After starting the year in so-so fashion, Mayer Lutheran has rattled off seven consecutive wins. The Crusaders picked up perhaps their two best wins to date on the year last week, beating Belle Plaine 81-73 Monday before upsetting Jordan 76-75 behind a 37-point effort by junior guard Kobey Woolhouse.
Minneapolis North
The Polars just keep on winning. Minneapolis North extended its winning streak to 18 games, remaing unbeaten since its season-opening loss to Apple Valley. The Polars beat Minneapolis Washburn 70-48 Thursday before going to Prinsburg and beating No. 9 Central MN Christian 55-48.
Hinkley-Finlayson
The Jaguars are quietly having a terrific season and are on a roll lately as winners of seven games in a row. Hinkley-Finlayson blew out Braham 90-52 Tuesday before going to Pine City and beating the Dragons by 14.
