This year’s conference tournament will include both 3-A and 4-A teams in one tournament. Coach’s of all MAC teams went with this format since McDowell (regular season 4-A champs leave for a different conference next season).
No. 7 Enka vs. No. 2 North Buncombe, 5 p.m.
This should be a good game with the overall talent level being pretty close in this one. North Buncombe is coming off a loss to Reynolds High School 65-63 on Friday night after already capturing the 3-A portion of the regular-season. I would predict The Black Hawks in this one in a close game.
No. 6 Roberson vs. No. 3 Erwin, 6:30 p.m.
Erwin HS beat Roberson HS in OT on Friday night as 2017 PG CJ Thompson scored 48 points in the win. Roberson is 8-14 overall. It should be another close game between the two county rivals.
No. 5 Asheville vs. No. 4 Reynolds, 8 p.m.
Reynolds HS is coming off a big win on Friday over regular season 3-A champion North Buncombe HS. Junior point guard Isaiah Pruett and shooting guard Kaedin Robinson, senior Max Hurst lead the Rocket offense. Asheville is led by senior forward/guard Trey Irby and on of the best freshmen in WNC with Tyrece Thompson. Reynolds seems to be gelling at the right time and I expect the Rockets to pull this one out in a close game.
No. 1 McDowell – Has a first-round bye. The Mountain Athletic Conference regular season champs will play the winner of the Reynolds HS and Asheville HS game.
