J’son Brooks 6’7 G/F Lagrange
Brooks has used a growth in both height and skill level to rocket himself up the rankings. The 6’7 forward could easily transition to the 2 guard at the next level, with his unique size and ball handling abilities transferring to college. He still has the ability to post up smaller defenders, and rockets right past slower bigs. Brooks is one of the biggest sleepers in the 2017 class.
Caleb Starks 6’3 G Lafayette Christian
With the landscape of college basketball, it is rare that a player get noticed more when they are playing for their high school team than their grassroots team, but that is what Caleb Starks has done. Playing along-side a tremendous amount of talent at LCA, Starks has held his own, and earned himself a scholarship to play for Northwestern St. The athletic and thick 6’3 is going to translate as a defensive stopper at the next level, and with his insane work ethic is only going to get better.
Tim Bedford 6’3 G St. Paul’s
Bedford is a slashing guard that can score for you at any point. He is relied on to score mostly around the rim for St. Paul’s, but has the ability to knock down the occasional three. On the defensive end, he is a menace, routinely getting 4-5 steals per night, and using his size and athleticism to slow down his opponent.
Devaughn Gauno 5’9 G Terrebone
Often big things come in small packages, and the same can be said for Gauno. At only 5’9, he uses his speed and tenacity to get right into the teeth of the defense, and finishes around the rim more like someone 6’5 than 5’9. Gauno can light it up quickly, either at the rim, or from the outside, and has had multiple games this year at 30+ ponts.
Najja Engelton 6’2 G David Thibodaux
Engelton has really burst onto the scene for his senior season, after being a relatively unknown prospect heading into the season, and he has let his name be known in a big way. The do-it-all guard can do whatever you want of him on both sides of the ball. He is a long, athletic guard that is more than capable of getting to and finishing at the rim. He has also had multiple games this year going for 5+ threes in a game, as well as a game saving “Lebron-esque” chase down block against Ville Platte earlier this season.
Trenton Guidry 6’5 F Hathaway
Guidry is another player that has used a big summer to get on the radar of local colleges that think he can succeed at the next level. For his high school team, he is relied on mostly as a post player, but this summer he has shown that he is more than that. He has shown the ability to play on the wing, and the ball handling abilities to take some defenders off the bounce. He projects to be a wing at the next level, and looks to have the shooting ability to do so.
