St. Thomas Aquinas: Ben Hagenkord 8, Leiland Lewis 7, Angelo Allegri 30, Jack Boedeker 3, Joe Rost 9, Cameron McMillan 2.
Bishop Miege: Semaj Ray 4, Ezekiel Lopes 10, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl 20, Josh Earley 11, Landry Weber 6, Joeseph Gleason 4.
MVP: Angelo Allegri (St. Thomas Aquinas) (Pictured, left). A 6’7 2017 forward, Allegri is one of the top unsigned players in the 2017 class in the Kansas City area and he showed off a versatile skill set on Tuesday. He’s not known for his outside shooting per say, but he showed a smooth outside shooting stroke, knocking down three 3-pointers.
He was 8 for 8 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter and finished with a game-high 30 points and added seven rebounds.
Best offensive performance: Angelo Allegri (St. Thomas Aquinas). At the risk of repeating ourselves, this has to Allegri. He had one of the better performances of the season with his game against Miege.
Best defensive performance: Landy Weber (Bishop Miege). Weber is kinda the forgotten man on a talented Miege team, but he really gets after it at the defensive end. He and Aquinas’ guard Ben Hagenkord had quite a battle throughout much of the contest.
Best shooter: Joe Rost (St. Thomas Aquinas). A long, lanky 6’4 2019 forward, Rost came off the bench to knock down two 3-pointers and add nine points in the second quarter, helping key a big Aquinas run that saw them go to the half holding an eight-point advantage.
Best player off the Bench: Joeseph Gleason (Bishop Miege). Also a standout on the football field, the 6’5 220-pound Gleason came in to spell Josh Earley and had some good moments mixing it up in the paint. He’s a strong, physical player that would probably be getting a lot more run at schools with a less talented front line.
Best rebounder: Jeremiah Robinson-Earl (Bishop Miege). He’s tough to contain in the paint and you have to give Aquinas’ front line a lot of credit for containing him, but Robinson-Earl did haul in a game-high 11 boards, including several on the offensive glass.
Best passer: Lieland Lewis (St. Thomas Aquinas). He’ll earn this title in just about every game he plays. Lewis finished with a game-high 11 assists and put a lot of pressure on the Miege defense as he got in the paint and made plays.
Best underclassman: Jeremiah Robinson-Earl (Bishop Miege). With all due respect to everyone else, he’s probably one of the top underclassmen in the region.
Name to remember: Josh Earley (Bishop Miege). Earley got the start with Francesco Badocchi out and showed flashes of brilliance. He’s a strong, physical player with a big frame and had nine points in the first half and finished with 11. He one of the better young big man prospects in the state.
Best match-up: Angelo Allegri (St. Thomas Aquinas) vs. Jeremiah Robinson-Earl (Bishop Miege). This might have been one of the better one-on-one match-ups you’ll see all year. Allegri came to play and had it working throughout the game, showing off a diverse skill set while Robinson-Earl had some terrific moments too.
