Utah is loaded with players that can play at the next level. We are highlighting some players that we believe are exceptional small college prospects.
Ryan McCann 6-3 Guard (Herriman) is a very productive player and can really score the ball. He is averaging over 16 points per game so far this season. mcCann is very good at getting to the hoop and mcCann is a solid outside shooter. He needs to improve his three point shooting and also needs to bulk up to handle the rigor of the college game.
Connor Shaw 5-11 Guard (Weber) the dynamic guard has had a huge senior season so far as he is averaging 18 points 5 assists and 4 rebounds. Shaw has shown the ability to take over games with his great handle and quickness. He’s able to get anywhere on the court. He will need to bulk up for the college game but I believe Shaw can be a big-time small college player.
Keanu Akina 6-2 Guard (Pleasant Grove) is a big-time shooter as he has connected on 36 three pointers so far this season. Akina had 32 points versus the #1 team in the country, Chino Hills which proves he can play at the next level. Right now Akina is just a shooter so he needs to work on the other parts of his game to be a more complete player.
John Villanueva 6-6 Forward (Hillcrest) the big body forward is a junk yard dog type of player. Villanueva has only been playing basketball for three years but has improved drastically. He’s averaging 10 points and 8 rebounds per game for the 8-1 Hillcrest Huskies. Offensively, Villanueva is still pretty raw and needs some work but he is a high level defender. He currently holds an offer from Dawson Community College.
Dalten Stewart 6-0 Guard (Timpanogos) the thin framed points guard has proven this year that he can play at the next level. Stewart is averaging over 13 points per game and has the ability to run the show at the point guard and get people the ball. He really needs to add some weight to his thin frame but he is a nice looking small college prospect.
