TOPEKA, Kan. — Prep Hoops takes a look at some of the top prospects and performances at the Topeka Invitational held last Thursday through Saturday. The field featured eight teams, seven from Kansas and one from Missouri.
Teams
Highland Park (Kan.), Lawrence (Kan.), Topeka (Kan.), Topeka West (Kan.), Wichita East (Kan.), Wichita South (Kan.), Wichita Southeast (Kan.), Vashon (Mo.)
Kobe Buffalomeat, 6’7, 2017, Lawrence (Kan.)
Kid was really impressive from what I saw. Has great size, a big bodied kid who mostly plays below the rim, but is a well-rounded big man with a good feel for the game. Has a nice post game, can get in there and bang and score. Drew some double teams throughout. Gets on the offensive boards. Has a nice feel for passing the ball, from the high post or out of double teams. Has a smooth free throw stroke.
Remy Lemovou, 6’8, 2018, Wichita South (Kan.)
He’s an above-the-rim shot blocker and dunker that runs the floor well, challenges anyone who comes in the paint at the defensive end and cleans things up at the offensive end. Is a really good rebounder as well, especially on the defensive glass. His offensive game is still raw, but like his upside.
Levi Stockard, 6’8, 2017, Vashon (Mo.)
Kansas State signee is one of the better post players in the region. He is strong, physical, has terrific footwork in the paint and consistently draws double teams inside. Vashon is so talented around him that there are times they forget to feed him the ball, but he’s an impact player even when he’s not putting up big offensive numbers due to his presence in the paint.
Malik Perkins, 6’6, 2017, Wichita Southeast (Kan.)
This kid was scrappy and a big part of a Wichita SE team that just battles you until the end. He’s not overly skilled or polished, but finds a way to impact the game with his hustle and tenacity. Southeast plays really good team defense, and Perkins is a big part of that. He battled a much bigger Levi Stockard in the championship game and held his own.
