At 6’6, 200-pounds, Thomsen has the ability to play on the wing, or can slide over and play a stretch 4 with his physical frame and ability to shoot from the outside. He has spent much of the season focused on becoming a better rebounder and a more aggressive scorer.
This past offseason, Thomsen spent 2/3 of the summer playing for KC Run GMC and also found his way onto the Kansas Cagers as well.
He says he spent the offseason working on his game and preparing for the high school season.
This year, Free State has started slow, but have played better of late as they attempt to define roles on a talented team.
“We started of pretty slow but last couple games we are starting to come together as a team and starting to show who we are,” Thomsen said.
Like many of his Free State teammates, Thomsen says he is looking forward to playing Lawrence High, their cross town rival. The two teams will meet in the season finale on Feb. 24.
“It’s the best atmosphere I have ever played in,” Thomsen says of playing Lawrence earlier this season.
Thomsen says his dad has been the biggest influence on his game and that he enjoys watching the NBAs Dirk Nowitzki and Klay Thompson.
“He has taught me how to play and coached me since I was little,” Thomsen said. “He has helped me with many assets of the game.
“I like watching Klay (Thompson), the way he catches and shoots and mainly just his shooting ability.
Thomsen has heard from several NCAA Division II schools, including Adams state, Nebraska-Kearney and Colorado Christian.
