Continue ReadingAs his senior season continues to unfold, Carlisle forward Max Evans continues to improve into a college-type player, and there’s one NAIA in particular he has his eye on.
And though the 6-foot-5 senior has made no final decision, he mentioned a few schools that have shown interest in him.
“For me right now basketball-wise I’m considering Morningside, and I’ve heard from a few of the other GPAC (Great Plains Athletic Conference) schools like Morningside. I’ve heard from a couple of smaller schools like Northwestern and Buena Vista and that sort of thing,” said Evans.
“To be honest, Morningside is probably the one I consider the most, but I’m keeping my options open right now.”
Evans visited Morningside last summer, and mentioned to PHIA what it was that stood out to him.
“I went up there this summer and I talked to the coach and he seemed like a good guy, and I liked the campus and everything,” he said. “It’s just a matter of if it’s the right place for me with finances and everything, but I liked it when I was up there.”
At 6-foot-5 and with an ability to put the ball on the floor and hit an outside shot, Evans has a versatile set of skills that he’s continuing to develop.
“I’ve been working on driving a little bit more than just settling. Being 6’5 and being able to handle the ball I guess that’s what I’ve been working on,” said Evans. “And not just settling for 3s and jump shots so much, and trying to get to the hoop more.”
Last season Evans averaged 17.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. This season, with the emergence of sophomore standout Colin Lister, Evans is able to focus more on other parts of his game.
Through five games this season he’s averaging 11 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 3 assists.
“My role was to score more last year, but this year Colin Lister has been playing really well, so I don’t need to score as much,” said Evans. “Me being the tallest kid on the team, rebounding has been my biggest role. And my main goal is just to win games, I don’t care if I score 20 points a game or not.”
Off to a 3-2 start, there are now high expectations in Carlisle, for the first time in awhile.
Evans is all in on making this a season to remember for the Wildcats.
“The last time we had any success or a conference championship was like 10 years before I was born,” he said. “So just finishing out the season with some team success is my goal, personally.”
