Silgen is averaging just under 18 points per game while contributing as a rebounder and playmaker in the high-powered Rangers attack. The team is off to a terrific start and a big key to that has been the team’s ability to play both ends of the floor.
“We’ve been playing really well all around,” said Silgen. “I think the key has been our defense. We’re not just piling it on on offense. We’re playing really good defense.”
Silgen’s been a key player for good C-I teams for a while now, and he’s starting to gain college interest as coaches take notice.
“It took me a little longer to get my name out there I think because of the fact that we blow so many teams out, my numbers aren’t as high sometimes,” said Silgen. “I might not have been on the radar as early. But I’ve had quite a few coaches talking to me lately. St. Thomas more recently. Jamestown, St. Johns and St. Scholastica have been talking with me as well.”
Silgen said he’s taken visits to most of those schools but that he isn’t in a big hurry to make a commitment. He’s only just gotten onto the college basketball radar in a sense, so he’s not in a rush.
“Because I got on the radar later, I figured I’d wait until after the season to make a decision,” said Silgen. “See if any offers come along. I’m not in any rush to commit.”
In the meantime, Silgen and the Rangers have a lot in front of them. Undefeated halfway through the season, the Rangers have high aspirations. They’ll likely have to go through Esko is they want to get to the section final/state tournament, but this Rangers team has the talent to beat any team on their schedule.
