The list of players that are having a season that would earn this award is full of big-time college basketball recruits. In this article we take a look at the top candidates for the award and how their season is coming along. There are a number of players having great seasons but these five are taking it to another level.
Blake Harris- The senior guard who has committed to Washington is averaging 26.7 points and 9.3 assists per game this season while helping lead The Holy Rams to a 13-4 overall record so far. He is the front-runner at this point in the season for the PrepHoopsNC Mr. Basketball award.
Brandon Huffman- The North Carolina signee is off to a strong start this season for Word of God. Harris’ teammate and center has been averaging 16.7 points, 13.4 rebounds and nearly three blocks per game. Word of God plays a national schedule year in and year out.
Justyn Hamilton– The Temple commit has been having one of the best season for anyone in the state. The 6-foot-9 center is putting up 13.6 points, 10.7 rebounds and 4 blocks per game this season for one of the favorites in the 4-A division of the NCHSAA.
Tyler Maye– The senior guard is averaging 31.2 points per game for the defending NCHSAA 2-A state champs. Maye is probably the best unsigned senior in the state that has yet to sign with a college. Maye has a list of offers that includes Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, New Hampshire, Western Carolina, Winthrop and Kennesaw State.
Lavar Batts- Virginia Commonwealth University Head Coach Will Wade came into North Carolina and snagged his future point guard Batts. The senior is averaging 26.4 points, 4.5 assists, 6.4 rebounds and 2 steals per game for the defending NCHSAA 3-A state champs Jay M. Robinson High School.
