Continue ReadingT.K. Robinson (2018) of Carroll High School is a physical guard capable of taking over a game any given night. His ability to attack the rim or use his mid-range shot makes him difficult to guard. What’s most impressive about T.K.’s statistics is he is doing all of this while playing against competition in the Greater Catholic League (GCL), which is known for having many defensive minded teams in years past.
T.K. tells me the season hasn’t been too well, however “we are making up for it”. After starting the season poorly, Carroll has turned around and begun to win a few games. In fact, they just picked up their first league win over Hamilton Badin 40-35 and T.K. was a big reason for the win. In a low scoring game, T.K. contributed 10 points and a couple of rebounds to help the team. As the regular season comes to an end, expect T.K. to continue to contribute to the Patriots and help prepare them for the tournament.
T.K. has been helping the Carroll varsity team since his freshman year. I asked him if that experience has helped him develop his skills to where they are currently. He tells me, “it has, but there is still stuff I need to work on”. Some of these improvements he wants to see is going to his left and continuing to work on his jump shot more.
On the flip side, T.K. says his best strengths are defense and driving to the basket. Having these skills are some of the reasons why T.K. made 1st team All-GCL last season as a sophomore. I asked him if he felt any pressure to be the team’s go-to-guy because of this experience. “Yes, but everyone works hard and does their job as a team. I’m a team player”. T.K. also credits how tough the competition in the GCL is to why he plays so well. “The league is tough and teams give their all”. Because of the strong defensive presence, T.K. sees many double teams, as well as very strong help-side defense against him. Regardless of how he is guarded, T.K. finds ways to score anyway and helps get his teammates involved as well.
Currently, T.K. has received no college offers, but you can expect that to change in the coming months. T.K. should expect to see his name on the All-GCL team again this season, as well as start to gain attention from scouts during AAU season. With much of Carroll’s roster being juniors and sophomores, the expectation is the Patriots will be led by T.K. and the rest of the strong senior-to-be class next season, and T.K. will be pushing for GCL Player of the Year as a senior. Keep an eye on this physical guard as he continues to improve his game and become an even better basketball player.
