The 6-foot-2 junior — and Tryon Gym product — has received just one letter of recruitment so far, from an Iowa NAIA.
“I received a letter from Briar Cliff after my sophomore season, but it’s just been them so far,” said Harris, who is averaging 17.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game this season.
“Right now in my overall college decision, I’m trying to decide if I want to go to a smaller school (for basketball), or a larger school. If I could get some looks from some D2 or D3 schools that would be nice to help impact my decision this summer.”
Harris says he’s not yet decided if he wants to play hoops in college, but if his recruitment would take-off this summer, he’d be much more likely to.
“It’s not set in stone, but playing basketball in college would be cool,” he said. “And it’s definitely something I’d like to do.”
In the meantime, he’s got the second half of his season with the Vikings ahead of him. He’s led them to a 13-1 record so far.
“I think one of my best skill-sets, now that I have grown and have gotten bigger, is being able to create my own shot going to the hoop. And also my pull-up has gotten a lot better since my freshman year,” said Harris.
He attributes the 13-1 record to a confidence, and some added talent. The Vikings were just 10-11 last season.
“Things have definitely been different this year. This year we’re much more confident as a team, so I’m not relied on to score as much. I can score when needed, but I like to make plays for my teammates and I trust them getting my teammates shots is really important to me,” said Harris.
“The team goal is definitely to make State. And individually, I have performance goals each year, and this year my goal is to shoot 50-40-90, so that’s a lofty goal, but it’s something good to shoot for.”
