Known as a sharpshooting guard, Colvin embraces that role, but it working now to establish himself as a two-way player.
“As a player I really thrive as a shooter, but lately I’ve been really trying to get into a defense-first mindset,” he said. “And another strength of mine is my passing, and just finding the open man.”
He just became eligible after transferring into River Rouge from Taylor Prep, and is coming off the bench for his new team.
“I’m trying to really find my way, but I’m trying to be a defense first guy, and that’s what I want to be for this team this season,” said Colvin.
“It’s been more of a challenge. Last year we didn’t really have as many threats as we do now. And my role is really to be more of a rebounder and a decent role-player.”
Just a sophomore, Colvin hasn’t had much recruitment come his way yet, but says he knows this summer, his 16U season, will be an important one.
“I really hope to start to get looks as a player and get a lot of exposure, that’s in my mind all the time,” said Colvin. “My goal this summer is to start to get looks and to get my name out and just get my name exposed, and to start the process of getting to that next level.”
