The 6’1 combo guard, Mike McKay has been playing outstanding basketball as he contributes to the reason why Springfield High School is 12-1. The Wildcats have beaten Wayne High School, Columbus Eastmoor, Centerville High School and Chaminade-Julienne just to name a few quality wins. The guard is averaging 17.3 points a game, 3.7 assist, and 4.5 rebounds.
McKay is very athletic. He has been getting most of his buckets through his ability to play quick and rise above his defender to see the rim eye to eye. The combo guard can finish inside and outside of the paint. The guard played AAU for All-Ohio Black which gave him exposure on the AAU circuit.
The guard looks to increase his recruitment and hopefully looks to land an offer soon as the season is picking up close to tournament time. He has one offer from Urbana University and interest letters from Tiffin and Findlay. McKay can play either Division I or Division II basketball.
“My strengths are my handles, my ability to score and my athletic ability. Being able to dribble around defenders and rise above them makes it easy to score. I have always been labeled as a shooter but this season I am showing teams I can score from anywhere on the court.”
McKay and his team are making noise in the GWOC conference by beating quality teams that are ranked high in the state. Springfield has beaten 3 of the 4 teams listed in their conference so far.
